Use dual SIM function via eSIM iPhone XS,
iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and later models can use the dual-SIM function through a nano-SIM card and an eSIM1. eSIM is a digital SIM card that allows you to activate the cellular mobile number provided by the carrier without using a physical nano-SIM card. What is the dual card function? There are many ways to use dual cards, some of which are listed below: Use one number for work calls and another number for personal calls.
When traveling abroad, add a local data package. Voice and data use different numbers. In iOS 13 and later, both of your phone numbers can make and receive voice calls and FaceTime calls, and can send and receive iMessage, SMS, and MMS2. Your iPhone can only use one cellular data network at a time.

Use eSIM to set up a cellular number On iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and later models, you can use a physical nano-SIM card to set one cellular number, and use eSIM to set another or more other cellular numbers. If you don’t have a nano-SIM card and your carrier supports eSIM as a unique cellular mobile number, you can just use eSIM. The eSIM provided by the operator is stored digitally in the iPhone. To activate your second cellular number, you can scan the QR code provided by the operator, use the operator’s iPhone App, install the assigned cellular number, or enter the information manually: Scan QR code Open the "Camera" app and scan the QR code. When you see the "Cellular Number Detected" notification, tap it. Tap "Continue" at the bottom of the screen. Tap "Add Cellular Number". If you are asked to enter a confirmation code to activate eSIM, please enter the number provided by your carrier. Install the assigned cellular number In iOS 13 and later, some carriers can assign you a cellular number for you to install. Please contact your carrier for more information. If your carrier has assigned you a number, please follow the steps below: When you see the "Carrier cellular plan is ready to install" notification, tap it. In the "Settings" app, tap "Carrier cellular package is ready for installation." Tap "Continue" at the bottom of the screen. Enter information manually If necessary, you can manually enter the package information. To manually enter your package information, please follow the steps below: Go to "Settings". Tap "Cellular Network" or "Mobile Data." Tap "Add Cellular Number". Tap "Manually enter information" at the bottom of the iPhone screen. You can store multiple eSIMs in iPhone, but you can only use one at a time. If you need to switch between eSIMs, tap "Settings", then tap "Cellular Network" or "Mobile Data", then tap the number you want to use. Next tap "Enable this number". Label the numbers separately After the second number is activated, please label your two numbers separately. For example, you can mark one number as "business" and another number as "personal". You will use these tags to distinguish the numbers you use in the following situations: making or receiving calls, sending and receiving messages, choosing numbers for cellular data, and assigning numbers to contacts. If you change your mind later and want to change the label, you can go to "Settings", tap "Cellular Network" or "Mobile Data", then tap the number you want to change the label. Then, tap "Cellular Number Label" and choose a new label or enter a custom label.
Set default number Choose a number for you to use when calling or sending messages to people who are not in the "Contacts" app. In iOS 13 and later, you can choose which cellular number to use for iMessage and FaceTime calls. In iOS 13 and later, you can select one number or two at the same time. On this screen, choose a number as your default number. You can also choose to use one of these numbers for cellular data only. The other number will become your default number. If you want iPhone to use the cellular data of two numbers based on the signal coverage and service availability, please turn on "Allow cellular data to switch". Use two phone numbers for calls, messages and data After setting up two phone numbers on the iPhone, the following is how to use the two numbers.
Let your iPhone remember which number to use When you make a call to a contact, you don’t need to choose which number to use every time. By default, your iPhone will use the number you used the last time you called this contact. If you’ve never called this contact, your iPhone will use your default number. You can also assign a number to a contact. Please follow the steps below: Tap this contact. Tap "Preferred Cellular Mobile Number". Tap the number you want to use for this contact. Make and receive calls You can use any number to make and receive calls.
In iOS 13 and later, you can receive calls from another phone number during a call, but only if the operator of the other number supports wireless LAN calls. If the number you use when you call is not the number you specified for cellular data, you need to turn on "Allow cellular data switching" to answer the call on another number. If you did not answer the call, but you have set up a voice mailbox at your carrier, you will receive a missed call notification and the call will be forwarded to your voice mailbox. Please confirm with your carrier whether it supports wireless LAN calls, and confirm with your data provider whether additional charges or data usage will be incurred.
If you are using one number to make a call, and the other number shows "No Service", it may be that your carrier does not support wireless LAN calls, or you have not turned on the wireless LAN call function1. This may also mean that "Allow cellular data switching" is not turned on. When you use one number to make a call, the call on the other phone number will be forwarded to the voice mailbox (if you have set up the voice mailbox at the operator) 2. However, you will not receive a missed call notification for the second number. "Call waiting" only supports incoming calls received from the same phone number. To avoid missing important calls, you can turn on call forwarding to forward all incoming calls from one number to another number. Please confirm with your operator whether this feature is supported and whether additional payment is required.
1. If you are using iOS 12, please update to iOS 13 or later so that you can receive calls when you use another number. 2. If data roaming is turned on for the number used for cellular data, Visual Voicemail and MMS will be disabled for numbers that only support voice.
