PUBG Mobile alternatives: These are the best battle royale games on Android
With India banning PUBG, these are the best battle royale alternatives.
The Indian government has banned PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite and over 100 Chinese apps including Alipay, Baidu Search Engine, WeChat Jobs, and more. The government noted that the apps "are stealing and secretly transmitting users' data in an unauthorized manner" and sending it to servers outside India, using this as a pretext for a blanket ban. PUBG Mobile is the #1 mobile game in India with over 500,000 monthly active players. One of the reasons for the game's meteoric rise in India is that it runs especially well on budget phones. So, with PUBG Mobile now banned in the country, if you're interested in playing the battle royale game on your phone, what are your options? Thankfully, there's no shortage of similar titles, and we've rounded up the best PUBG Mobile alternatives below.
Call of Duty: Mobile
Call of Duty: If you're looking for an alternative to PUBG Mobile, Mobile is the obvious choice. With over 10 billion downloads, the game runs fine on budget phones and takes up just over 1.7GB of storage. Like PUBG Mobile, CoD Mobile is free-to-play, offering a 100-player battle royale mode as well as 5v5 deathmatch and sniper-versus-sniper duels. You can play multiplayer maps from games like CoD Black Ops and CoD Modern Warfare, and you can customize your character with a variety of outfits, weapons and unlock new ones. Call of Duty Mobile is released by US-based Activision, so it won't be banned in India anytime soon. The game is available for download on the Play Store as well as the App Store.
Garena Free Fire:
Free Fire is another game that mimics the PUBG script. The battle royale game offers a 50-player survival mode that lasts 10 minutes per round. Like PUBG, you can drive vehicles and choose from a variety of customization options to suit your character, and the game often gets new content. You can also play with up to four squads, and there's a shorter 4v4 Clash Squad format that debuted in October 2020. The best thing about Free Fire is that the game takes up over 100MB of storage and is incredibly optimized for a budget phone.
Made by Garena in Singapore with over 50 billion installs, Free Fire is one of the biggest royale games on Android. The game is available on the Play Store and App Store.
Battlelands Royale:
Battlelands Royale introduces an interesting twist to the battle royale genre. The game has fun characters, lets you play solo or create squads, and each round only lasts three to five minutes on average. The 32-player survival mode follows the same premise as other games in the category: skydive to the desired location on the map, grab loot, shoot other players, and be last. The game is designed for mobile devices and will run well on almost any phone. It takes up just over 200MB of storage space on your phone, the visuals are great, and there are plenty of customization options for the characters. Produced by Finland-based Futureplay, the game currently has over 100,000 downloads. Download the game for free on the Play Store or the App Store.
Fortnite:
Epic Games was banned from the Play Store earlier this month by acquiring Fortnite for violating Google's payment rules. That said, the game itself is still available for sideloading on Android phones, and if you have a Samsung phone, you can install it directly from the Galaxy Store. The mobile version of Fortnite has some drawbacks. The game doesn't really work well on lower budget devices, so you'll need a mid-range or high-end phone to play the game. The truth is, these games require a 7.2GB download and take up more than 8GB of storage space on your phone. While Fortnite attracts a lot of players in the global market, the game really hasn't received much attention in India due to these restrictions. Fortnite can no longer be played on iOS, but if you have an Android phone, you can install the game by going to Epic's website and installing the Epic Games app, then download Fortnite and install it on your phone. If you don't want to focus on the game, you can take a look at Creative Destruction, a well-made clone that offers similar game mechanics.
