China is having its hottest day of the year, and this year has been extraordinarily hot for many. The highest temperature in Shanghai reached 40.9°C on Wednesday (July 13), tying the record for the highest temperature since 1873. Many other places were also scorched by the sun. The roof of a museum in Chongqing collapsed due to high temperatures, while roads in Jiangxi Province were cracked due to the heat.
